HalpaHalli is a family-owned business that has been in business for over 50 years, which offers a wide range of products, from groceries and everyday goods to clothing, home goods, and sports equipment. The chain operates 35 brick-and-mortar stores throughout Finland, but products can also be ordered from its online store. The chain is known for its competitive prices and extensive product selection, which includes many well-known brands. In total, HalpaHalli’s various operations employ approximately 1,300 people in Finland.
A new era of occupational safety with PRO24
HalpaHall’s logistics centre in Kokkola had been using Protect’s PRO24 system for several years. In 2022, following an occupational safety consultation by Protect’s expert, it was decided to extend the use of the system to the company’s other operations as part of an internal development project to strengthen occupational safety and improve the efficiency of occupational safety processes.
The PRO24 HSEQ system from Protect is designed to be particularly well suited to the needs of occupational health and safety and has helped HalpaHalli to develop and improve its health and safety processes significantly. Particular attention was given to occupational health and safety reporting processes, such as reporting safety observations, accidents and near misses. It was important to have this information in one place so that the evolution of observations and accidents could be reliably monitored.

In addition to these, work risk assessments and safety rounds were also introduced as part of the stores’ health and safety processes. Two desktops were created in PRO24, one for health and safety managers and health and safety representatives and one for workers. The system has given greater visibility to the health and safety processes, which has improved the health and safety culture throughout the company.

In HalpaHall’s occupational safety management, Protect’s PRO24 HSEQ system offers a user-friendly solution that also works on mobile devices. Each store has its own occupational safety and health officers, who mainly use the system on terminals.
– By utilizing the direct links behind the QR codes, the system provides employees with direct access to important information, such as the safety plan, orientation materials, and other essential occupational safety and health resources. New employees can be trained using the system, and the same platform also allows them to take a skills exam, says Joonas Kontio, property manager at HalpaHall.
A rescue plan that is maintained in one place and updated in one place also ensures that all necessary information is quickly and easily accessible to everyone. – The emergency plan implemented in the system has received praise from emergency response authorities as well, Kontio adds.
