Responsible choices - Protect was ahead of its time 20 years ago
-When we started 20 years ago, our mission was to prevent accidents. In today's terms, it's about safeguarding people's well-being, business and the environment. When these three elements are under control, accidents and incidents can be prevented," says Protect's CEO Pertti Salo. Over time, the terms have changed, but the core of what Protect does remains the same.
Hands that protect the core
Protect's mission, or core mission, was captured in the logo designed by Mats Auren 20 years ago. The logo depicts hands protecting the core - people, business and the environment. The colours are red for safety, glowing orange for safety and dark blue for reliability. To mark the anniversary, Protect will launch a fresh new logo inspired by the Protect logo, vision and mission. The swan in the logo is a symbol of partnership with customers and Finnishness, which is reflected in Protect's fully domestic services. The new logo has been designed by Minna Husa.
Responsibility in business is a financially viable issue
The environment and society have changed. Twenty years ago, safety issues were largely done for the authorities. Today, responsible choices have become part of the decision-making and strategic choices of management teams and boards of smaller companies. Responsibility is no longer an entertainment for the authorities, but is now understood as a competitive advantage for which a value in euros can be assigned - Responsibility starts where the legal requirements end. Whereas in the past in Finland, the aim in safety was to meet the minimum targets required by the authorities, the trend today is to exceed them, because they are no longer seen as a cost or extra work, but as something that benefits the company's business. Therefore, companies and organisations are actively looking for areas where they have the opportunity to exceed regulatory requirements," says Salo.
Performance through responsible choices
Protect is starting the anniversary year with the Responsible Choices value proposition. Protect aims to go beyond the requirements of legislation to do business responsibly for the benefit of society, the environment and people. Responsible business requires choices and decisions that everyone is willing and able to live with. Sometimes choices are difficult and sometimes not making a choice is a choice. Above all, responsible choices are active decisions that weigh up a commitment to values and ethical practices. Protect delivers a service to its customers that helps them to act responsibly by safeguarding their people, the environment and their business. In this way, customers can ensure the performance of their business by preventing accidents and incidents and reducing their after-effects.
