Successful workplaces make safety part of everyday life - Protect new rating system

Protect has been ranked in the Zero Accident Forum's occupational safety ranking for 2019: Level I - Top in the world. The aim of the rating is to support workplaces in the long-term development of occupational safety and to highlight positive examples of workplaces where safety is part of everyday life. "This year, 18 of the workplaces that received the rating achieved the zero accident target," says Tiina-Mari Monni, Director of the Zero Accidents Forum. "We have noticed that as safety observations increase, the number of accidents often starts to decrease. The more people you get to observe in the workplace, the more safety becomes part of everyday life," says Monni. In addition to identifying hazards throughout the workplace, conducting workplace risk assessments and support meetings has been found to be a good way to influence safety.

Workplaces with a classification have many ways to influence and communicate about safety at work

- Supervisors are a key group in the development of occupational safety, and a lot has been invested in supporting their work in the graded workplaces," says Monni.Protect's own occupational safety and well-being objectives last year were strongly focused on early intervention. Effective sickness management, an active manager-employee relationship and various solutions to reconcile work and private life improve well-being at work and the well-being of every employee, says Protecti's Business Director Miia Laakso.

A jointly developed set of criteria behind the level classifications

The Zero Accident Forum's annual grading is based on criteria developed in cooperation with member workplaces. When awarding a rating, the frequency and severity of accidents in the workplace are examined, and the investigation and reporting of accidents at work are required.
