Safety first - site safety reinforced with a safety expert

The need to strengthen and harmonise the safety culture at the sites emerged, especially with the expansion to the Vaasa area. JAKE The building already had a strong safety foundation, but the company wanted to bring in more expertise and practical approaches to risk management. The aim was to reduce risks and accidents on site and to ensure that safety was not just an obligation, but an integral part of the company's everyday life at every stage of the process.

"We wanted a partner who would get to know the staff and the operators in the area and who would make the cooperation smooth, building a strong foundation for future projects," Ville Ollila, Production Manager at JAKE Construction says.

 

Protect's safety expert was tasked to support JAKE Building in developing a safety culture. The cooperation started with a comprehensive safety mapping, which reviewed the current situation on the sites, identified strengths and identified areas for improvement. The safety training sessions then covered risk factors and how to prevent them.

At the same time, site-specific safety rounds and TR measurements were carried out to assess the safety situation on site. These provided concrete recommendations for necessary improvements.

"In addition, risk management processes were updated so that potential incidents can be identified and prevented before they occur," Ollila adds.

For JAKE Building, it was important that safety thinking was not just the responsibility of the management, but that it became part of the everyday life of the whole organisation, a lasting change in attitude towards safety throughout the organisation. With the help of Protect's safety expert, employees and supervisors were given clear instructions on how to take safety into account in their daily work.  

"The effects of the cooperation were quickly visible on the construction sites," says Ollila.
