Adara Pakkaus Oy is a packaging specialist headquartered in Valkeakoski, Finland, offering its customers packaging solutions from design and materials to packaging automation and logistics. The company wanted to improve occupational health and safety by purchasing the Protectin PRO24 system.

-Response and follow-through to incidents and accidents was not at the level we wanted. We decided to improve this, especially by improving the flow of information and access to information," say Jari Konola, Adara's Production Manager, and Lauri Valkeamäki, responsible for occupational health and safety.

PRO24 was launched in 2014. During the first few months, the system was fine-tuned to best suit Adara's needs and maximise its benefits.

-For example, the system includes Safety Data Sheets, which are now kept up to date without us having to worry about it. Employees can make an incident report from their own computer. The notification is passed on to the production staff, while the system ensures that the notification is processed and that staff receive feedback on how the matter has been handled," says Konola.

    Find information faster

Whereas previously safety-related information was scattered across different systems, now you can find emergency plans and responsible persons, as well as information on training and expiry dates, all in one place. According to Lauri Valkeamäki, the efficiency of work has increased because no extra time is spent searching for information.

Improved information flow will also benefit the fire service. In the event of an emergency, they can access the layout and rescue plan online by reading the tag on the gate with their smartphone.

-It is clear from the first few months that near misses have been better reported than before and that the response to incident reports has been faster. And the system does not forget things when it reminds you to deal with them," say Konola and Valkeamäki.

They say that health and safety is something worth investing in for many reasons.

-If something happens, it is of course always a humanly unfortunate thing for the worker himself. Many small business owners are also unaware that, as managing director, they are also responsible for health and safety at work and that if something happens, it costs the company money. Customer audits are paying more and more attention to health and safety, and of course this has a positive effect on the atmosphere in the workplace, as employees feel that they are cared for.
